KUALA LUMPUR: The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) today introduced a new Guidelines on Digital Assets which will prescribe the regulatory requirements to conduct an offering of digital tokens.
Fundraising via digital token offering must only be carried out through an Initial Exchange Offerings (IEO) platform that is registered with the SC for this purpose and not through any other means.
The guidelines sets out the regulatory requirements, including the requirements that must be satisfied by an issuer in order to raise funds through an offering of digital tokens, requirements to be registered as an IEO platform operator, and the obligations of the IEO platform operator, as well as the investment limits for retail investors.
The guidelines will come into force in the second half of 2020 to allow potential issuers, platform operators and investors to familiarise themselves with the requirements.
