PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s manufacturing sales grew 5.2% in December 2019 to RM76.1 billion from RM72.3 billion a year ago, driven by the increase in transport equipment & other manufactures products (7.7%), petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic products (5.9%) and electrical & electronics products (2.7%).
Month-on-month, sales went up 3.4% (RM2.5 billion) while in a seasonally adjusted terms, sales increased 2.8%.
Chief statistician Malaysia Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said 1.09 million employees were engaged in the manufacturing sector in December 2019, an increase of 1.4% or 14,979 employees as compared to 1.08 million employees in December 2018.
Salaries & wages paid amounted to RM4.33 billion, up 4.2% or RM173.7 million in December 2019 as against the same month of the preceding year.
Simultaneously, the sales value per employee grew 3.7% to RM69,757 as compared with the same month in 2018. The average salaries & wages per employee was RM3,970 in December 2019.
Manufacturing sales in the year 2019 grew 5.0% to RM866.0 billion as compared to the same period of 2018. The number of employees engaged during the period grew 1.4% to 1.09 million persons while salaries & wages paid increased 4.3% to RM48.4 billion. The sales value per employee during the period rose 3.6% to RM794,065.
