MAA sees vehicle sales up 13.2% in July

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s vehicle sales rose by 6,698 units or 13.2% year-on-year (yoy) in July to 57,552 units, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

On a month-on-month basis, sales volume improved by 29% attributed to the sales tax exemption incentive for CKD and CBU vehicles, aggressive promotional campaigns by car companies as well as a longer working month.

For August 2020, the association expects the sales volume to be at par with July 2020 levels given the continuing sales tax exemption and promotional campaigns.

Year-to-date, total vehicle sales contracted by 33.1% to 232,245 units against 347,171 units sold in the corresponding period of the previous year

On the other hand, total vehicle production for the month stood at 47,631 units, a 2.6% decline from 48,912 units reported in the same month of the previous year.

In the first seven months of 2020, total vehicle production stood at 213,630 units, a 35.9% decline from 333,552 units produced in the same period last year.
