PETALING JAYA: Unisem (M) Bhd’s net profit for the second quarter ended June 30 more than doubled to RM33.95 million from RM14.45 million a year ago, mainly attributable to the higher sales volume achieved and the appreciation of US dollar/ringgit exchange rates compared with prevailing rates a year ago.
Its revenue rose 10.3% to RM310.08 million compared with RM281.12 million in the previous year’s corresponding quarter.
For the six-month period, its net profit increased 51.7% to RM31.12 million from RM20.51 million, while revenue jumped 3.7% to RM565.24 million versus RM544.96 million a year ago.
The directors recommended an interim dividend of 2 sen per share for the financial period ended June 30, 2020. The dividend will be paid on Sept 3, 2020.
“Global consumption and consumer confidence remain volatile due to the current Covid-19 pandemic. At Unisem, we remain cautious and will continue with stringent cost control measures, exercise restrain on capital expenditure and to take safety measures vigilantly at our plants to protect the health and well-being of all our employees,“ Unisem said.
The directors expect the operating environment of the group for 2020 to be challenging.
