PETALING JAYA: Sime Darby Bhd today announced that its chairman Tan Sri Dr Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Abdullah will retire from the board effective October 31, 2019 due to health reason and will be replaced by Datuk Abdul Rahman Ahmad (pix).
Under the transition, Abdul Rahman will join the board as a non-independent non-executive director on September 1 and subsequently assume the role of chairman on October 31.
Currently, Abdul Rahman is the president and group CEO of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), which owns a 52% stake in the group.
Prior to the post, he held the role of director and CEO of Ekuiti Nasional Bhd, a government-linked private equity firm and he had also served as Media Prima Bhd’s group managing director and CEO.
Aside from Sime Darby, Abdul Rahman also sits on the board of Velesto Energy Bhd.
It was reported that Invesco Ltd’s investment director for the Singapore office Jalil Rasheed will assume the PNB CEO role.
“The board of directors and the senior management team of Sime Darby Berhad expresses its gratitude to Tan Sri Wan Abdul Aziz for his leadership and valuable contributions these past years. We look forward to a smooth transition of board leadership under Datuk Abdul Rahman’s direction,” said its group CEO Datuk Jeffri Salim Davidson in a press release today.
Meanwhile, Wan Abdul first joined Sime Darby in 2012 a board director as well as a member of board committees, prior to taking on the chairman position in November 2017.
Before joining Sime Darby he had served in the public sector holding various senior position the Ministry of Finance and the Economic Planning Unit in the Prime Minister’s Department.
In 2007, he was appointed the Secretary General of Treasury in the Ministry of Finance, a position he held until his retirement in 2012.
